Neetas: Stormers expect Cardiff scrum revenge mission

Neethling Fouché insists the Stormers are taking nothing for granted ahead of Saturday’s Vodacom URC quarter-final against Cardiff at Cape Town Stadium.

The Stormers head into the clash with a fair bit of confidence after hammering the Glasgow Warriors 48-12 in their final home league game, but the draw away to Ulster and loss to Cardiff would’ve stung. Fouché says the squad remains fully aware of the threat Cardiff pose.

“We are preparing for a match against a team we lost to two weeks ago,” said the Springbok tighthead.

“They were better than us and defended very well.”

Fouché dismissed suggestions that the Stormers would automatically benefit from moving away from Cardiff’s artificial surface to the lush green grass of their home ground.

“There’s no chat about us suddenly being comfortable because we’re back on grass. The focus is on executing the plans we have,” he said.

The experienced scrum specialist also expects Cardiff to come back stronger in the scrums after the Stormers gained the upper hand in that department during the teams’ previous meeting.

“Coach Corniel is sharp. He would have analysed the scrums closely and we expect a stronger effort there this time,” Fouché said.

“We know they will be better and will come with a plan.”
