Scotland lures SA schoolboy twins abroad

Scottish Rugby has snapped up two promising South African schoolboy players.

Kingswood College twins Josh and James Mackenzie are set to join the Glasgow Warriors Academy at the end of the year.

The pair qualify for Scotland through their paternal grandparents and had already spent time training with Glasgow in Johannesburg earlier this year.

Both are currently in matric and play 1st XV rugby for Kingswood in Makhanda.

James is a utility back, while Josh features in the loose trio and at lock.

Josh has also represented Eastern Province at the U18 Craven Week in 2024 and 2025 and earned SA Schools U18 honours under former Kingswood coach James Winstanley.

The twins previously visited Scotland as part of Kingswood’s exchange programme and spent two months at Glenalmond College in Perthshire.

During that stint, they visited both Edinburgh and Glasgow and reportedly met with Scottish Rugby performance director David Nucifora as well as national talent pathway boss Kenny Murray.

Kingswood confirmed the move on social media.

“Congratulations to Kingswood College 1st XV rugby players, James and Josh Mackenzie, who have both been signed by Scottish Rugby,” the school said. “They will join the Glasgow Warriors Academy after their final matric exams in December.”
