
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The six players who failed to make the final cut are Brandon Petersen, Thabiso Monyane, Lebohang Maboe, Brooklyn Poggenpoel, Thapelo Morena and Patrick Maswanganyi.
One of the surprise inclusions in the squad is Iqraam Rayners, who has seen limited game time under Broos and also struggled for regular minutes at Mamelodi Sundowns during the second half of the season.
Bafana World Cup squad announced
Bafana will take on Nicaragua in their World Cup send-off match on Friday at the Orlando Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.
The friendly against the Central Americans will be South Africa’s final match on home soil before Broos and his squad depart for Mexico ahead of the FIFA World Cup. It has been reported that Bafana could play against Jamaica in one of their friendly matches before their opening match.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
Bafana will open their World Cup campaign against Mexico national football team at the iconic Estadio Azteca on 11 June. The are in Group A alongside Mexico, Czech Republic and South Korea.
